Four Official Topics
PLOC is an employment route for eligible ICA LTVP/LTVP+ family members and does not permit self-employment. Its four main official topics are separately explained.
| Topic | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Key facts | Purpose, renewal, quota/levy and legislation |
| Eligibility | Criteria, application options, validity and unsuccessful requests |
| Taking up employment | Holder duties, employer start/end notifications and licences |
| Restricted occupations | Excluded roles and the LOC alternative |
Obtain the PLOC Before Arranging Employment
An eligible ICA LTVP or LTVP+ holder can request PLOC without first finding a job. The eligibility category is a spouse or unmarried child under twenty-one of a Singapore citizen or permanent resident. When applying for or renewing the residence pass with ICA, the holder can choose the PLOC option. If it was not selected, the holder or sponsor can make the later request two days after receiving the LTVP card.
PLOC duration follows the underlying ICA pass. If that pass is near expiry, renew it first rather than expecting a new PLOC to extend the stay. The PLOC outcome is emailed within a week, with applications assessed on their merits; check the junk folder if the message is missing. If unsuccessful, a prospective employer may consider the separate LOC application route. PLOC is not guaranteed by family relationship alone.
Before accepting a role, check the restricted-occupation list, including the media and religion-related restrictions described by MOM. For a restricted occupation, the prospective employer must apply for LOC instead. For an eligible PLOC job, show the issued PLOC and valid residence pass to the employer, who must notify MOM before work starts. As practical preparation, separate obtaining PLOC, checking the particular occupation and recording the employment notification.
