Requesting an XBRL Validation Exemption

Separate Reporting Exemptions from Validation Exceptions

First determine whether financial statements must be filed and which format applies to the company. A solvent exempt private company and a dormant relevant company have distinct conditions under the general filing requirements; technical difficulty with an XBRL file does not itself establish either status. ACRA’s XBRL exemption process instead addresses a genuine business-rule validation error that cannot be corrected in the data. Compare the reported validation issue with the signed source statements before applying. This helps distinguish an exceptional validation requirement from an omitted comparative period, transcription error or other data problem that can be fixed.

Use the Validation Result After the Decision

Send the completed exemption request form, signed AGM financial statements and XBRL file to the official email channel identified in the guide. Keep the requested rule and supporting financial information together so ACRA can assess the actual validation problem. The application is free; the stated processing period is three to seven working days depending on complexity. After processing, validate the XBRL file again and inspect the online result. The guidance allows upload to BizFinx when the result shows Possible or Granted exemption / not applicable. An application email, or the passage of the usual processing period, is not a substitute for checking that resulting validation status.
