Eligible Relatives
A legally married spouse and unmarried children under 21, including adopted children, use DP. A common-law spouse recognised by their country or region’s law, unmarried stepchildren under 21, and the PEP holder’s parents use LTVP. The page’s standard family categories do not cover married or over-age children; they may seek their own work pass if intending to work.
When to Apply
This family page recommends applying once the PEP is approved. DP and LTVP applications take around six weeks. Simultaneous applications are possible, but the family application fees may be lost if the PEP is rejected. The separate main application page recommends waiting until issuance; waiting until then satisfies both instructions.
Plan Each Relative’s Pass Route
As a preparation aid, make one entry for each relative showing the relationship, a child’s age and marital status, and the proposed DP or LTVP route. Check legal adoption or recognition of a common-law relationship against the category before preparing the application. Financial dependence alone does not expand MOM’s listed family categories. For a married child or a child outside the under-21 category, assess an independent route rather than assuming the PEP family route applies.
Distinguish Approval, Issuance and Card Delivery
Record the main PEP as pending, approved with an in-principle approval letter, or issued. In MOM’s PEP application sequence, pass issuance produces a notification letter; physical card delivery is a later step. Do not use arrival of the card as the definition of issuance.
For planning, waiting until the main pass is issued follows the application page’s later recommended stage. This is a conservative sequencing choice, not a claim that simultaneous applications are prohibited: MOM expressly permits them and warns about losing each family application fee if the PEP is rejected. Budget for each relative separately and allow the stated family-pass processing time rather than treating the main PEP approval as the family’s approval.
