Cancelling a Work Holiday Pass: STVP and Reapplication

Cancellation after the stint, lawful stay and the twelve-month reapplication interval.

Source reviewed: 2026-10-12

Cancellation and Reapplication

The holder or EA cancels immediately when the Singapore stint ends. An expired pass needs no cancellation, but an STVP is required while still in Singapore to avoid an overstay fine.

Apply for another Work Holiday Pass only at least twelve months after the previous pass was cancelled or expired.

Departure and Cancellation Steps

Check airline health/visa requirements and home-country embassy entry requirements or MFA travel guides before booking.

Cancel through Singapore EP eService in myMOM and request an STVP for up to thirty days from application if still in Singapore. It is emailed; show it and a valid passport on departure. Cut the old card in half and discard it.

Plan Departure Without Confusing Cancellation and Stay

As a practical departure check, record the last working day, the planned cancellation date, the flight date and the expiry of the stay permission that will apply afterward. Do not assume the original work-pass card remains valid once cancellation is completed. MOM instructs holders who remain in Singapore to request an STVP through the cancellation service and to use the emailed STVP with a valid passport at departure.

The STVP can grant up to thirty days from the application date; that upper limit is not an automatic thirty-day extension in every case. Check the date actually granted. Where the Work Holiday Pass has already expired, it does not need cancellation, but remaining in Singapore still requires the separate STVP request described by MOM. An expiry or cancellation date and a lawful-stay expiry are therefore different dates to check.

For a future stint under the Work Holiday Programme, the twelve-month waiting period runs from cancellation or expiry of the previous pass. Meeting that waiting period does not remove the other eligibility conditions. The applicant must still be aged eighteen to twenty-five at the new application and satisfy the university and residence requirements. Keep this six-month programme separate from the Australian and New Zealand twelve-month visa programme, whose one-time issue rule is different.
