Bodies of Persons: Form P1 and Tax Assessments

Bodies of persons have their own income tax filing and assessment guidance.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Key Requirements

The directory covers the definition and taxation of bodies of persons, preparation of Form P1, filing defaults, assessments and objections. Payment and refund guidance is also linked. Do not assume a club or association follows the same return as an incorporated commercial company. Determine the organisation’s statutory category and income characteristics, then use the corresponding detailed procedure. A nonprofit purpose does not by itself answer whether a particular income source is taxable.

Locate the Filing Responsibility and Accounts

Use the body-of-persons category applicable to the organisation before choosing a return. For clubs and associations, IRAS’s detailed Form P1 guide places filing responsibility on the president, honorary treasurer, secretary or another management committee or council member. It states a 15 April annual submission date with the required accounts. Non-receipt of the notification letter does not remove the filing duty, and physical copies of Form P1 are no longer issued.

For YA 2026, the official guide identifies an online Form P1 route requiring Corppass and authorisation for the ‘IRAS FormSG (Corppass)’ service. As practical preparation, confirm who is authorised and assemble the accounts and computation before opening the form. A dormant organisation should check the actual waiver criteria and application process rather than assume inactivity is an automatic permanent filing exemption.

Review the Assessment After Filing

IRAS reviews Form P1 with the accounts and can request further information or adjust the computation. The detailed post-filing guide generally expects an NOA by 31 December of the same year. An objection should state clear reasons within 30 days of the NOA date, while tax remains payable within one month despite an objection. Keep the filed return, accounts, assessment and correspondence together so a committee handover does not lose responsibility for the payment or response timetable.
