Key Points
The application seeks 60 days and costs S$200, non-refundable. ACRA advises at least 14 working days of lead time. Prepare the UEN, FYE, reasons and supporting correspondence, then select the annual-return option in VCC eServices. Further extensions require strong reasons and are not routine. Monitor the decision rather than treating payment as approval.
Check the Application Window Before Preparing Payment
A VCC can apply up to 60 days before the AGM or annual-return deadline, and ACRA recommends allowing at least 14 working days before the relevant due date. Once that deadline has passed, the extension route described in the guide is unavailable. Confirm that the requested extension is for the annual return rather than the AGM. The same VCC eServices area contains both options, but the application must identify the obligation for which more time is needed. A payment or submission acknowledgement alone does not establish that the extension has been approved.
Explain the Cause and Completion Timetable
Give the UEN, financial year end and a specific reason for the delay. Where relevant, include a director’s explanation of auditor changes, the auditor’s correspondence explaining the delay and expected completion, or SGX’s comments. As a practical check, make the requested extra time consistent with that supporting timetable. ACRA lists up to 14 working days for processing, with complex cases or busy periods potentially taking longer. A further extension is not routine: strong supporting reasons are needed, another non-refundable S$200 fee applies, and the appeal letter and documents should reach ACRA at least 14 working days before the extended deadline.
